Finally, it can be said: in the forthcoming thing we have come to know as Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Harry Lennix will be the Martian Manhunter. In the upcoming HBO Max miniseries, the veteran stage and film actor announced that his presence The Snyder Cut will reveal that the character he played in the first two Snyder Superman films was secretly J’onn J’onzz’s favorite comic book this whole time as part of an upcoming installment in our Collider Connected video interview series.
For many years now, Snyder has been promising J’onn J’onzz’s presence in his film, posting storyboards as well as mysterious clues, but his initial vision for the role never saw the light of day since being replaced as director of Justice League back in 2017, and fans were left questioning if the fan-favorite Justice Leaguer would ever make his big-screen debut.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League
In order to fully complete the editing and visual effects of the director’s initial concept, as well as the extra photography, Zack Snyder’s Justice League would reportedly cost about $70 million. It is also expected that the original post-production crew will return along with the cast members to film extra dialogue for the cut.
The Justice League of Zack Snyder stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Martha Kent as Diane Lane, Steppenwolf as Ciarán Hinds, Lex Luthor as Jesse Eisenberg and J.K. Actor Harry Lennix confirms Justice League
Actor Harry Lennix reveals he was interested in shooting the Martian Manhunter scene in Zack Snyder’s Justice League reshoots. It’s been more than three years since a Justice League version was released in theaters, but it wasn’t what Snyder wanted that the cut viewers saw. There’s just a few months remaining now before the Snyder Cut of Justice League is over and HBO Max debuts. Snyder’s latest edit will be published as a mini-series of four episodes, and he says the Snyder Version has been unseen for more than two and a half hours.
Prior to the official announcement of the Snyder Cut, Snyder released lots of details regarding his version. The Martian Manhunter announcement came with one of the moments that got fans most excited. Snyder aims to validate the long-running fan theory in the Justice League that General Swanwick from Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is really the Justice League’s intergalactic shape-shifting member. However, prior to Snyder’s departure in May 2017, Harry Lennix never got the opportunity to film the scene.
Martian Manhunter Justice League
As one of the founding members of the Justice League, first introduced in 1950 with telepathic and shape-shifting powers, the Martian Manhunter made a name for himself. Recently, Lennix had shed clues about this possible creation on social media, and Zack Snyder had released storyboard pictures revealing how he may have used the Manhunter in his original film as well.
To bring this famous character to life, Lennix is obviously ecstatic and it will be fascinating to find out how he works with the rest of his “virtuous” Justice League teammates. One of the highlights of this latest cut should be his transition from General Swanwick, and it brings another layer of excitement on top of everything else already revealed.
Harry Lennix Justice League
About the same time as Justice League, Harry Lennix was shooting The Blacklist and had not completed his Martian Manhunter scenes until Joss Whedon took on the entire operation, with the new squad ignoring the J’onn J’onzz series in the DC Comics adventure.
Later, in April 2020, Lennix said he would love to portray Martian Manhunter if the Snyder Cut were ever made. Of course, HBO Max announced that sometime in 2021, the director’s cut of Justice League will debut on the site. It is also confirmed that Zack Snyder is pressing Warner Bros. to release this year his four-hour director’s cut of Justice League on the big screen as well as on HBO Max.
Martian Manhunter, by writer Joseph Samachson and artist Joe Certa, is a telepathic shapeshifting alien developed in the 1950s. The character was originally brought to life by Phil Morris on Smallville, and later by David Harewood in ArrowVerse from The CW, first featured on Supergirl. It would be the first time the Martian Manhunter has made a big-screen movie debut. Since it’s now theoretically being sliced from a TV program. Harry Lennix said this about being Martian Manhunter in Zack Snyder’s finalized Justice League view.
Justice League Snyder Cut
Ultimately, J’onn J’onzz was left out of the theatrical cut of Justice League. But Snyder continued to post storyboards that featured Martian Manhunter on social media in the years after its publication. And last October, while shooting in front of a green screen, Lennix actually got to put some of those scenes to light.
It’s going to be great to be up there with Batman and Superman and my pals, Lennix said. “Yeah, I’m like a kid at a candy store once more.”

JUSTICE LEAGUE all about know
In Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Harry Lennix portrayed Calvin Swanwick, and while it was not clear to the actor at the time, it was Snyder’s hope that the character in JUSTICE LEAGUE will be revealed to be Martian Manhunter. Harry Lennix was asked in a recent interview with Collider about his views on the forthcoming mini-series and his character. He then admitted that because of scheduling conflicts on The Blacklist, he’d never actually shot these scenes.
He knew little about his hidden identity at the moment. Before Snyder left the production, he did not get a chance to read the script. Lennix said, however, that he met back in October with Zack and his friends. As such, through the green screen, he was able to complete his scenes for the film.
It may be likely that Snyder could have used the Martian in the newest Knightmare scene with Lennix on location for Snyder’s extra photography. As news struck that other actors filmed several scenes for this sequence, such as Jared Leto and Joe Manganiello, the timing will align. It would be a perfect complement to the resistance of Batman and would give audiences a lot more Manhunter than they first expected. As a four-part mini-series on the HBO Max streaming channel, Zack Snyder’s Justice League will officially be launched in March. We are just a few months out until the Justice League’s initial idea of Snyder is unveiled, so who knows what else before then might be coming our way.
